“You’re lucky you didn’t lose the diamond out of the ring.”
Not exactly what you want to hear your jeweler say when you take your ring in for repairs. I noticed a while ago that the prongs on my engagement ring were worn down. I made a mental note and then procrastinated going into the jewelers for six months. For a while the ring sat in my jewelry box, and then I wore it again for a bit before finally taking it in for repairs. After the jeweler told me how lucky I was that I hadn’t lost the diamond, he gave us the rundown on the cost of the repairs. My husband’s jaw dropped a little; “That’s almost as much as I spent on it.” I guess that’s when you know you’ve been married for a long time: when the cost of repairs to your engagement ring is almost as much as its original cost.
I’ve always worn my rings, which is probably why they have taken such a beating. I know I should probably take them off especially when I’m lifting weights, but I don’t… probably has something to do with my tendency to procrastinate. My husband, on the other hand, only wears his ring on the weekends and on date night. As a plumbing contractor he can’t really wear it without seriously damaging the ring. I joke that he’s available on the weekdays, but taken on weekends. Even though my ring is repaired, I’ve spent the last few months checking my ring every so often worried that at some point I’ll glance down and the diamond will be gone. That’s when I started to consider an alternative to our platinum and gold bands, something that would stand up to the beating I put my ring through and enable my husband to wear a ring every day.
I’ve seen QALO rings advertised on Facebook and I was thrilled when they offered to send us rings to try out.
QALO silicone rings are known as “The Functional Wedding Ring” and are great for both men and women.
Their functionality and style allow you to carry on with your daily activities without the risk of damaging your wedding rings. Whether you’re at the gym, the playground with your kids or installing plumbing into your new home, these rings fit your life.
They recently launched their Women’s Stackable Ring collection, from which I selected three rings.
I love the color combinations (there are five to choose from) and the fact that you can mix, match and wear a combo that coordinates with your outfit or your mood. There’s also the option of stacking all three of them in different combinations or simply wearing one at a time. If I’m feeling gritty and gutsy I can wear the Black Smooth Stackable (pretty sure that’ll be what I wear for races) and if I want a more feminine look I can stack the Aquamarine Twist and Amethyst Step rings. They are really comfortable and I’m not worried about damaging my wedding ring when I’m at the gym.
My husband Mark chose their Men’s Perforated Silicone Ring and slipped it on as soon as it arrived. At dinner the next night, after he had worn the ring for a day on the job installing plumbing into a new home, I asked him how it felt. To which he replied, “Well… I wasn’t approached by any women, for once. I actually got a lot done. It really increased my productivity because I didn’t have to fend off any women.” Our kids couldn’t understand why I was laughing so hard. Sarcasm aside, I think he enjoyed wearing the ring as symbol of our commitment to each other. There’s been countless ups and downs in our almost 13 years of marriage. The QALO ring is a reminder of that commitment that can stand up to all kinds of conditions, just like our relationship has stood up to crazy and unpredictable conditions life has thrown our way.
Have you ever lost or damaged your wedding ring and had it replaced or repaired? Which QALO ring design would you pick?
